Iguazu Falls is a pretty ridiculous place. A massive wall of waterfalls almost 3 kilometers wide is breathtaking enough. Layering on rainbows and electric blue butterflies sort of makes you want to shout “COME ON!” If there were unicorns and a splash of pink, it would be like stepping into a Lisa Frank folder.
Kristy might tell you a kitten or two would really complete the picture, and at first we thought the hoards of furry coatis would be a nice substitute. Then we saw a gang of them chase a nice Japanese couple away from their lunch while making high-pitched wailing noises, and we realized they were actually terrifying hellions.

Iguazu Falls is formed where the Iguazu River cascades over the edge of a massive plateau that straddles the border of Argentina and Brazil. We couldn’t make it to the Brazilian side because of the cost of the visa, but we spent an amazing day in the Argentine park, strolling along the viewing walkways, taking a boat ride into the falls (exhilarating, but a bit like what I imagine waterboarding feels like), and hiking along a jungle path that ended at – surprise – another waterfall.
It’s really a place that speaks for itself, so if you’ve never been, hopefully these additional photos will give you an idea. (Not pictured: the monkeys, tapirs, toucan and other exotic birds we saw. We’re a bit slow on the draw with the camera.)
